When you are reading this, I will be somewhere in the desert of Baja California, en route to La Ventana for two weeks of kitesurfing and other adventures, camping along the way in our Big Red Van. I’m writing this a week prior, the day before we leave and go offline while we’re on the road.
We started in Tucson for Christmas with my mom, and already the need to be flexible was called upon when a coolant leak proved to be worse than we thought and Josh needed time to diagnose and fix. But it then turned out to be better than the worse case scenario, so we stayed in Tucson just one extra night in the end. It gets colder there at night than at home, the difference being the air is dry and clear and there is a sky full of stars. We walked the dogs, tried to get them to play despite the 30-pound weight difference, drank coffee in bed, drank wine on the patio, and of course solved all the world’s problems.
I wish you all a happy new year, whatever that means (or doesn’t) for you. We’ll have celebrated somewhere in the middle of nowhere, which is becoming our preferred method. Of all the resolutions, also resolve to give yourself grace in a difficult world, give yourself comfort when nothing else can, and give yourself a few deep breaths everyday to remember who you are.
♥️
Happy New Year to you and Josh may it be full of joy, love and adventure.
